Your Friday Playlist: The Best of Rap

When we think of rap in film, we often times think of rap-specific movies (such as 2009’s Notorious, or, of course, 8 Mile) or movies primarily aimed at black audiences (think 1995’s Friday). Yet, rap has surreptitiously permeated all genres of film, having become a large contributor to many films’ soundtracks, with that rate growing. Now, it’s not uncommon to find movies paying heed to, or even centering themselves around, some pretty fire beats. With a nod towards the past and a look towards the future, please enjoy a playlist of some of my favorite rap songs from film. Some are original songs, some are merely ancillary inclusions, but all of them deserve to be played loudly with some heavy bass:
